Overview

This is the page to visit if you're seeking general information about the Calumet region of southeast metropolitan Chicago. We've linked to key partnerships, groups and agencies working in the region, and provided some of the key reports outlining the efforts behind the Calumet revival.

Partnerships

Lake Calumet Ecosystem Partnership:
Industry, community, and government finding common ground.

A valuable networking opportunity for a range of economic, environmental and community interests is available through the Lake Calumet Ecosystem Partnership (LCEP). The strategic mission of the partnership is to support activities that restore the natural environment, foster a sustainable economy, interpret the history of the Calumet region, revitalize local communities, and protect environmental health.

The Lake Calumet Ecosystem Partnership was founded in 1999 by the Southeast Chicago Development Commission and the Southeast Environmental Task Force as an affiliate of the Ecosystems Program of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. LCEP membership includes: regional, citywide and local environmental organizations; industries; government agencies; community-based organizations; and, individuals.

The Ecosystems Program of IDNR provides financial and technical support for maintaining and enhancing ecological and economic conditions in key watersheds of Illinois. LCEP and the 33 other Ecosystem Partnerships across the state are coalitions of local stakeholders united by a common interest in the natural resources of their area's watershed. Over $23 million from Illinois' Conservation 2000 Fund has been awarded to support more than 600 projects performed by ecosystem partnership members.

For further information or to join LCEP, call the Southeast Environmental Task Force at 773-646-0436.

Calumet Heritage Partnership
The Calumet Heritage Partnership (CHP) serves the greater Calumet region, which includes much of northern Indiana. CHP includes environmental, cultural and historical organizations, individuals, libraries, educational institutions, municipalities, and government agencies committed to celebrating, preserving and protecting the unique heritage of the Calumet region.
