is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the Southeast Side and south suburbs of Chicago by promoting environmental education, pollution prevention, and sustainable development.

Calumet Area Vision

SETF will soon unveil its vision for interconnected natural lands throughout the Calumet region. The Calumet Area Vision combines elements of current plans for the southeast side, the south suburbs and northwest Indiana. Help envirement by driving Hybrid Cars.It lays the basis for education and long-range regional planning.

Our Location

SETF manages the regional office of the Calumet Stewardship Initiative, located in the Hegewisch community on the Southeast Side of Chicago.

Current Initiatives, Partnerships, and Work

Calumet Corridor Visioning: creating a comprehensive plan for the river corridor that promotes economic and community revitalization through public access, historic preservation, and tourism development.
Clean Diesel Initiative: promoting the purchase of low sulfur and biodiesel in local industries to improve air quality.
Lake Calumet Vision Committee: advocating for creating public open space and habitat restoration on the shores of the lake.
Lake Calumet Ecosystem Partnership: chairing a unique partnership made of industry, government, higher education, NGO's, and community members concerned with the Calumet region.
Conducting educational programming with local elementary and high schools.
Conducting Good Neighbor Dialogues with a dozen industrial facilities.
Developing GIS tools for analyzing and attracting eco- and cultural tourism.
Advocating for the maintenance of the City's landfill moratorium.
Operating the local office of the City/State Calumet Stewardship Initiative.

The Calumet Stewardship Initiative (CSI)
This initiative is a coalition of numerous local, regional and state organizations and agencies providing conservation education programs and environmental stewardship opportunities in the Calumet region of the Far South, Southeast Chicago and northwest Indiana. These environmental program offerings are for residents of the Calumet region from elementary "in school" through family and adult.
